A very busy Saturday morning on Dermot Wheeler Park with no less than 10 matches taking place and three on Finn Park. Deteriorating conditions on Sunday saw some matches being postponed to a later date. All in all, another super weekend of football!
U8 Blue
Our U8 Blue team looking great on Saturday morning with David Murphy of DTM Construction who kindly sponsored jerseys for both U8 teams.
They played some excellent games against Avonmore and were very well supported by family and friends.
Massive thanks from all the coaches and players to David for the support, it is much appreciated!
U9 Yellow
Our u9s were in action on Saturday morning on Dermot Wheeler Park against Wicklow Rovers.
Great skills were on show from both teams with some wonderful goals and excellent saves.
Thanks to Wicklow Rovers for travelling and well done to all for a very entertaining mornings football!
U9 Green
What started out as a grey, wet, muddy Sunday morning in Kilmac, was brightened significantly with some dazzling performances from the U9 Green team against a brave and stubborn Glencormac team.
The first obstacle to overcome was battling a very muddy pitch - but the players all dug in and dealt with the conditions brilliantly -Say a prayer though for whoever has to wash those jerseys this week 📷
Special mention for the goal scoring exploits of Rian Meenan and Ardan Jayawardene, who both couldn't be stopped - but every player gave their all and played their part in brightening up an otherwise cloudy afternoon.
U12 Red
Our U12 Red team were up bright and early on Saturday for a 9.15am kick off at Dermot Wheeler Park against Enniskerry.
With a large squad of 20, players were rotated regularly to make sure everyone got game time.
Right from kick off it was an end to end match with Enniskerry having chances and St Anthony's unlucky on several occasions not to score. Credit to the Enniskerry goalkeeper who made some excellent saves.
It was Enniskerry who broke the deadlock just before half time to make it 1-0.
The team came out fighting in the second half and it wasn't long before Dylan O'Rourke Shortt found the back of the net with an excellent strike to level the game.
There were many chances in the second half but between bad luck and, again, an excellent Enniskerry goalkeeper, we couldn't find another goal to take all three points.
Final score St Anthony's 1 Enniskerry 1.
Standout players were Adam O'Brien and Aaron Lavery who were rock solid today, Mason Kelly who fed some excellent balls up to the strikers and Abel Bajric who made a massive impact on the game when he was introduced in the second half.
All players gave their all today however and the coaching team are very happy with their mornings work.
Thanks to Angus and his Enniskerry squad who traveled down, to the many parents and supporters who cheered them on and to the ref for a great game.
Thanks again to Derek Byrne of Keller Byrne for kitting the lads out.
U13 Girls
U13’s Girls were in action on Sunday away to Tallaght in the Premier Cup competition.
An electric game that saw our St.Anthony’s U13’s Girls progress to the next round with a 5-4 win after extra time.
We always expect a physical game with goals when we compete against Tallaght and our squad we’re ready for the challenge from the first whistle.
We needed the full depth of the squad today to defend against the pacey Tallaght forwards. There were tough battles in midfield where our strength was really the difference, winning balls high up the pitch to set away Bella McLeod, who converted all 5 goals in the 80 min tie.
The coaches and parents supporting the girls could not be more proud of our players who earned their place in the next round.
Thanks to Tallaght coaches and players, it’s always a tough and fast game enjoyed by all when we meet.
Thanks from Suzanne, John and Tom.
U14 Black
Great team performance from the U14 Black team on Saturday who took on Ashford Rovers in Moneystown.
Some excellent goals from Lucas, Scott, James and Dom left the score line at 5-2 to Antos.
Thanks to the supporters for travelling and to Ashford for the game and the very best of luck to them for the rest of the season.
U16's
Our camera shy under 16s were in action on Saturday morning on Finn Park against Roundwood F.C.
St. Anthony's started the game slowly and could have gone 1 down in the first 3 minutes but for a great save by Jaden in goals.
We soon got on top and dominated the play. We scored in the 20th minute only to have it ruled marginally offside.
All even going into the break.
We started the second half quickly and the ball fell to Mick Carroll on 60 mins who dribbled around two players and got a shot off which was blocked but he was able to finish on the rebound.
We continued to dominate but Roundwoods keeper pulled off some remarkable saves.
A long ball down the middle caught us out but we managed to get control in our box only to have a mix up and their player slid in to score bringing the game to 1-1.
For the rest of the match we continuted to dominate and again, their keeper pulled off some incredible saves from Mick and Jack Ryan to keep it level at full time.
Thanks to Roundwood for the game, to the supporters and well done to the full squad for putting their all in today.
Senior Team
St Anthony’s Senior team welcomed St Pats of Avoca to Finn park on Sunday in the Thomas Scott cup quarter finals.
Antos took the lead early with a finish from Shane Doyle pulled back nicely from Paddy Woods.
Then we went on to get our second and third from Paddy Woods.
Pats got it back to 3-1 with a well struck free kick.
Pats had a man sent off and the game became very scrappy in the second half and Pats pushed us back. From 3 or more counter attacks, we struggled for the fourth goal to kill the game off until near the end. Paddy Woods again hit a volley into the far bottom corner, the game finished 4-1 to put us into the semi finals.
Well done lads another win in the bag.
Paddy Woods man of the match with his assist and hat-trick
